We’ve been without dogs for about a year and a half, two whole sailing seasons. It’s been easy and quiet. Very quiet. This is probably the longest time Jaana has been without pets. So when we returned from our summer sail, she informed me that she was ready for a new dog.
We thought it would be sometime before we’d find a pup we’d like. As luck would have it, someone had cancelled, and a small terror was available. Instead of packing the boat for a weeks trip, we packed the car and drove 500 km to Jaana’s parents house. The pup would be found another 100 km north and we needed a place to rest. We just told them we’d come for some firewood for the winter.
The following evening we drove up to the kennel to check out if this would be our new friend. A few hours later we were back and surprised the old folks. The little rascal showed he true colours from the beginning. What a terror!
A restless night later and we headed home. A quick change of clothing and half an hour later we were off sailing. Our new baby didn’t even have time to check out her new home. Or, actually we went straight to the second home, which needs getting used to.
